Healthy and Affordable Food at NTU (2025)

SDGs

NTU provides a range of healthy and affordable food choices for all members of the university community through transparent nutrition information, nutrition education, healthy food options, and campus-wide dining discounts.

Healthy Food Choices

1. Calorie and Macronutrient Information
Calorie and macronutrient information—including protein, fat, and carbohydrate content—is published on the Dining Services Committee website for meals served at campus restaurants and cafeterias, helping faculty, staff, and students make informed food choices and maintain balanced diets.

▲ Faculty and students can find information on calories, protein, fat, and carbohydrates for meals on the Dining Services Committee website.

2. Health and Nutrition Seminars
Each semester, the NTU Health Center offers wellness seminars such as "Healthy Eating When Dining Out" and "Smart Food Choices for a Healthy Body," promoting balanced diets and healthy eating habits among busy staff and students. In addition, the Health Center provides nutrition consultation services, through which registered dietitians offer personalised dietary guidance to faculty and students.

3. Healthy Food Options on Campus
NTU's campus restaurants offer a variety of healthy food choices to support balanced nutrition. The Protein Box offers a range of high-fibre, high-protein meal boxes for a nutritious meal. Yoyo Fruits sells fresh fruit on campus, providing convenient access to produce rich in vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre, and other essential micronutrients. The Agricultural Exhibition Center also sells fresh milk, yogurt, and whole-grain bread produced by the NTU Experimental Farm, further diversifying the range of nutritious options available to the campus community.

Affordable Food Choices

1. Campus Dining Discounts
To maintain affordability, all of NTU's dining halls, restaurants, and convenience stores offer 5–15% discounts for faculty, staff, and students. These discounts help reduce the cost of living and ensure that healthy and nutritious meals remain affordable and accessible to all members of the university community.

2. Competitive Pricing and Menu Price Monitoring
On-campus meal prices are generally 10–20% lower than comparable off-campus dining options, making campus dining a more affordable choice for students. To help maintain these affordable food choices, prices on campus are also closely monitored by the university: during the contract period, vendors wishing to raise menu prices must submit a formal application with supporting documentation, and the university approves only reasonable price adjustments after a comprehensive assessment.
