Centered on environmental change, NTU's Center for General Education / Science Education Center hosted a series of topical lectures in 2025, featuring interdisciplinary dialogues among experts across various fields. The July session focused on "Aquaculture Science and Industry," inviting scholars to discuss black tiger shrimp farming practices under climate change and the climate challenges facing milkfish aquaculture. The November session, themed "Fisheries and Shrimp Farming," explored how climate change impacts wild catch strategies and examined modern shrimp farming policies in Southeast Asia. In addition to the live seminars, recordings were made available on public online platforms to broaden public access to sustainable fisheries knowledge.

In collaboration with the National Museum of Marine Science and Technology, the International College of NTU co-developed a two-day immersive marine ecology and fishing village tour that fosters direct engagement between participants and local fishing village communities. The programme explores the multifaceted connections among marine ecosystems, culture, and communities—ranging from fishing village culture and marine industries to coastal ecosystems— while promoting the concept of citizen science and helping build public understanding of the relationship between marine resources and local daily culture. In 2025, the programme welcomed 70 participants, including international students.

NTU Hosted Events
2025 Asian Society of Ichthyologists (ASI) Annual Meeting (FREE)
Hosted by NTU in June 2025, the conference focused on two core themes: "Conservation" and "Transformation." It featured 4 keynote sessions covering Systematics (evolution, taxonomy, and biogeography), Ecology, Sustainable Fisheries, and General Fish Biology, alongside 9 specialized symposia across diverse fields. The meeting showcased the remarkable biological, environmental, and cultural diversity of Asia and the Indo-Pacific region, providing an excellent platform for Taiwan and New Southbound Policy partner countries to share cutting-edge research and deepen academic collaboration.

Related Institutes & Research Centers
As a part of an island nation, NTU is deeply aware of the importance of marine resource conservation. NTU actively promotes sustainable fisheries by establishing the Graduate Institute of Fishery Science, the Fishery Biology Experiment Center, and the Committee on Fisheries Extension. These entities not only cultivate national talent in aquatic ecology, environment, and water resource management but also enhance public knowledge of sustainable aquaculture and fisheries management through events and lectures.
The Graduate Institute of Fishery Science integrates various fishery science teaching and research units within the university. It has been dedicated to fundamental aquatic bioscience education and research for the nation for 40 years, cultivating countless professionals in aquatic life science and resource management, and developing new technologies to solve industry problems and promote fishery development.
The Fishery Biology Experiment Center collaborates with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to conduct long-term surveys and research on fishery resources, covering issues such as the maintenance, cultivation, and management of pelagic, inshore/offshore aquaculture, and inland fishery resources. It provides professional data analysis for the aquaculture industry.
The Committee on Fisheries Extension is composed of professors from the College of Life Science who conduct fishery-related research. It holds periodic traveling seminars across the country, engaging in in-depth research and discussions within fishing villages or specialized aquaculture zones, and offering technical and professional consulting services.
