NTU provides mentoring, counselling, or peer support programmes to support students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented groups.


Evidence 1: NTU provides support programmes to students, staff, and faculty from underrepresented groups, including the indigenous communities, people with physical or mental disabilities, and low-income households.

The Indigenous Students Resource Center supports indigenous students and organizes ethnic language courses, handicraft courses, career lectures, and field activities. The Center also provides scholarships for tribal heritage and cultural research.

The Disability Support Services Office provides resources for students with either physical or mental disabilities. These resources include individualized service plan, diagnosis report, assistive technology leasing, academic advising, learning assistance. At the same time, NTU continues to improve the accessibility on campus, providing therapy counselling service, organizing activities and career advising for students to explore and pursue their degrees while enjoying their university lives.

The Student Counseling Center provides individual counseling. The Center has 30 full-time certified counselors and social workers, and 20 part-time counselors to help students overcome slumps or transitions. Students can book an appointment on the website and the Center will respond accordingly after learning their needs.

The “Hope” Project is launched for students from low-income or immigrant households. NTU builds up “Hope Supporting Group” and assign tutors to help the students cope with academic difficulties. Individual academic counseling and group tutoring tailor are also provided according to students’ needs.

For staff, NTU has done the following:
Each year, NTU signs a contact with the Teacher Chang Foundation’s Taipei office that aims to provide on- and off-campus, telephone, and email counselling service for staff. There are also talks and workshops on the subjects related to mental health issues. The contract covers 6 hours of counselling session for each staff member annually.
