NTU collaborates with the community to shared aquatic ecosystems
National Taiwan University shares its aquatic ecosystems with the community by opening its campus walls, creating a sense of unity. It has restored the original waterways, connecting the surrounding blue and green belts to collaboratively establish a landscape waterway with flood control functions and an eco-friendly design. Additionally, a Water Environment Patrol has been established at the North District River Conservation Center, providing guidance to 486 water environment patrols nationwide. This effort combines community, public, school, and environmental organizations to preserve the environment and ecology of water bodies and promote environmental education. Moreover, students within the university have formed a Children of Sea Club, collaborating with island communities to engage in community development and environmental education, all aimed at collectively safeguarding aquatic ecosystems.
NTU and Taipei City Transform Historic Canal into Pleasant Water Landscape
National Taiwan University has removed portions of the campus walls to create a approximately 600-meter-long green corridor. The former parking area within the campus has been transformed into an open space for pedestrians and the nearby community. Employing sustainable practices, the walkway features permeable pavement for pedestrians, along with a substantial planting of shrubs and ground cover plants. Inspired by the concept of agricultural irrigation channels, this project establishes a landscape waterway with flood control functions, reshaping the relationships among people, space, and life.
Northern Region River Conservation Center - Water Environment Patrol Team
Our university's Department of Environmental Engineering has established the Northern Region River Conservation Center to assist the Environmental Protection Administration in mentoring 486 Water Environment Patrol Teams from various counties and cities. We provide operational strategies and educational training to these teams. Collaborating with the public, communities, environmental organizations, and educational institutions at all levels, we engage in activities such as reporting pollution incidents, participating in river and beach clean-up efforts, and community environmental improvement projects. Additionally, we work to promote the concept of environmental education, enhancing public participation in safeguarding water environments and spreading awareness about the importance of water conservation.
