Preventing Water System Pollution

SDGs

NTU has defined the standards for processing and handling building and laboratory effluent in the “NTU Regulations for Building and Laboratory Effluent Management” and “NTU Regulations for the Storage, Disposal, and Handling of Laboratory Waste.” To ensure that the water quality of the wastewater discharged by NTU complies with the standards set by the Taipei City Government, we have taken several measures. In addition to installing pH adjustment tanks at the end of our wastewater system, we also conduct wastewater monitoring for 18 buildings within the university's main campus, where chemical experiments are conducted. This monitoring includes pH levels and conductivity measurements, allowing us to not only assess the wastewater's compliance with Taipei City's sewage system standards but also to have real-time insights into the wastewater discharge conditions. Furthermore, we annually collect samples for testing and analysis at each monitoring point through contracted testing agencies to guarantee that our wastewater discharge meets the relevant standards.

In addition to wastewater, NTU has specific regulations for laboratory waste. Regarding laboratory waste liquids, we entrusted qualified environmental recycling firms with the responsibility of disposing of laboratory waste liquids. Depending on the application status in our laboratory operations management system, the appropriate disposal will be arranged when the application numbers reach the required threshold.
