NTU's Water Management Educational Opportunities

SDGs

We offer free educational opportunities for local communities to learn about effective water management. We have been providing a free course titled "The Science of Water" on NTU OpenCourseWare, which is accessible to anyone with internet access. In addition, in 2023, we organized the following activities about good water management:

  1. "FERTILE FARMLAND LOOKING TOWARD THE WATER" EXHIBITION (FREE)
In November 2023, we hosted a special exhibition titled "Fertile Farmland Looking Toward the Water" at the Gallery of NTU History. This exhibition introduced the history of water canal construction on our campus over the past 300 years, as well as the local cultural development. It also addressed current water issues faced by the campus, the revival of modern campus water culture, and efforts in environmental restoration and improvement. This event aimed to provide the public with insights into the evolution of water management at NTU from the past to the present.

  2. "SDG 6: The Past and Future of Water Resources in Taiwan" (FREE)
The lecture titled "The Past and Future of Water Resources in Taiwan" was held on July 8, 2023, as part of the 2023 Science History Salon on Sustainable Development. Researchers from our Graduate Institute of National Development and Academia Sinica were invited to discuss the importance of groundwater resources, as well as the historical development of groundwater in Taiwan. They addressed the issues and challenges faced in groundwater management, including groundwater pollution, land subsidence, and disputes over the allocation of groundwater among agricultural, industrial, and fishing sectors.

  3. On April 21, 2023, the NTU Public Law and Public Affairs Forum hosted a lecture titled "Environmental Governance: Practical Review of Soil and Groundwater Pollution Remediation." Organized by the Graduate Institute of Public Affairs and Lee and Li, Attorneys-at-Law, the event brought together legal scholars, environmental experts, and professionals from various fields to engage in a comprehensive discussion on the issues surrounding soil and groundwater pollution remediation, addressing practical, technical, and legal perspectives. On September 20, we invited the President of Stantec Inc.’s Taiwan branch to share insights on the development of recycled water in Taiwan and case studies from various countries.
