We support practical water conservation off campus. 
 
  1. Water Innovation, Low-Carbon and Environmental Sustainability Research Center (WInnER Center)
    The Water Innovation, Low-Carbon, and Environmental Sustainability Research Center (WInnER Center) at NTU integrates research capabilities across relevant departments, focusing on water resource technology to help industries address the challenges of climate change and mitigate water scarcity.

    In recent years, the WInnER Center has made significant strides in developing advanced wastewater treatment technologies, including biofilm reactors and ultrasonic oxidation. These innovations enhance treatment efficiency and water purification while minimizing environmental impact. Additionally, the research team has developed effective water resource recycling and reuse technologies that remove pollutants and recover valuable resources from wastewater, opening new pathways for sustainable water resource management.


     
  2. Sustainable Water Resource Management Project
    Taiwan's mountainous terrain and seasonal rainfall often lead to challenges in water resource allocation. To prevent water scarcity for residents, agriculture, and industry, NTU is integrating expertise from various fields, including bioengineering, environmental engineering, urban planning, soil and water conservation, and agricultural economics, to advance the "Sustainable Water Resource Management" project.

    This initiative focuses on the water resources of southern Taiwan, clarifying information on supply sources—such as surface water, groundwater, and reclaimed water—as well as identifying stakeholders on the demand side, including government, businesses, farmers, and the public. By utilizing system modeling, we aim to simulate strategies that effectively meet multiple objectives and ensure balanced management of water resources.
     
  3. Northern Taiwan River Conservation Center
    To combat the pollution of our rivers more effectively, the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) established the Water Watch Program in 2002 and created aquatic environment patrol teams to monitor several key rivers around the country. With considerable government resources and the help of dedicated volunteers, a total of 486 such patrol teams are currently in service up to 2022. The responsibilities of these patrol teams include maintaining the aquatic ecosystems, monitoring water quality, reporting instances of pollution, and promoting environmental education. To help the EPA support the Department of Environmental Protection of local governments in manage river patrol teams, NTU established the Northern Taiwan River Conservation Center in 2015. The Center is responsible for organizing annual training sessions to train seed teachers and introduce emerging technologies to assist in law enforcement. The latter includes using resin packs to monitor heavy metals and employing drones to aid in patrolling waters and monitoring ecological conditions along the rivers. The Center hopes to leverage these various tools to implement the Water Watch Program with local characteristics in jurisdictions and to motivate local residents to participate in these efforts, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure the cleanliness and health of rivers.
