NTU puts the human-centric transportation concept into practice.

Adhering to a people-oriented transportation philosophy, National Taiwan University prioritizes pedestrian use of its campus roads, encourages the use of public transportation, and discourages the use of private vehicles. With pedestrian safety as its top priority, the university has established pedestrian zones, implemented pedestrian and vehicular traffic separation, installed barrier-free facilities, and constructed climate-controlled pedestrian walkways. In 2023, dedicated lanes were built to separate pedestrians and cyclists in high-traffic cycling areas. To ensure pedestrian safety at night and protect the natural environment, the university has revamped its nighttime lighting system in 2023, eliminating dark spots and providing safe pedestrian paths.

Chapter 4: Human-Centric Transportation Planning Principles for Campus

【Article 25】Campus transportation planning shall adhere to the principle of "human-centric transportation." Pedestrians shall be prioritized, followed by bicycles. Motorcycles shall be prohibited from entering the campus, and the entry of automobiles shall be discouraged. Noise pollution shall be minimized while ensuring the needs of emergency response and disaster relief planning.
【Article 26】Campus roads shall be designed with consideration for the surrounding environment, providing necessary facilities or spaces for faculty, staff, and visitors to rest and linger.
【Article 29】Newly constructed campus roads shall adopt the principle of "separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic," clearly defining areas for pedestrians and vehicles, and ensuring that sufficiently wide pedestrian walkways are provided. Bicycle lanes shall be designated where necessary.
【Article 30】Continuous green tree-lined avenues or covered walkways shall be planned to provide comfortable and continuous pedestrian spaces.
