1. University-wide Integration of SDGs into the General Education Curriculum
National Taiwan University (NTU) has demonstrated a university-wide commitment to meaningful education around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the continuous evolution of its General Education Program. Since its establishment in 1981, the program has undergone four major transformations to respond to emerging societal needs. In 2025, NTU officially entered the General Education 5.0 era, further strengthening the integration of sustainability into university education.
The General Education 5.0 framework embeds sustainability as a core educational principle by emphasizing interdisciplinary learning, contemporary relevance, critical thinking, and social responsibility. General education courses incorporate SDG-related themes—including environmental sustainability, ecology, society, ethics, and global citizenship—to cultivate students' knowledge, values, and competencies for sustainable development.
As a university-wide general education framework, this initiative ensures that meaningful SDG education is relevant and applicable to all students, regardless of their academic discipline. By integrating sustainability into the general education curriculum, NTU equips every student with the awareness and competencies needed to address global sustainability challenges and contribute to achieving the SDGs.

2. University-wide SDG Curriculum Mapping Across All Colleges
To support its institution-wide commitment to sustainability education, NTU has established a university-wide SDG curriculum mapping mechanism that systematically identifies and reviews SDG-related courses across all colleges and teaching units.
Each year, NTU maps courses to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and presents the results through a publicly available SDG Curriculum Mapping Sankey Diagram. This institutional framework enables the university to monitor SDG coverage, evaluate curriculum distribution, identify opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, and continuously improve the integration of sustainability across the curriculum.
The curriculum mapping system demonstrates that SDG education is embedded across the university, providing a transparent and evidence-based approach to monitoring and strengthening sustainability education.

3. SDG-related Courses Across All Colleges
NTU offers a comprehensive portfolio of SDG-related courses across its 13 colleges and other teaching units, ensuring that sustainability education is widely accessible to students from diverse academic backgrounds.
In 2025, the university offered more than 4,000 SDG-related courses with over 100,000 student enrollments. The curriculum spans a broad range of disciplines—including engineering, medicine, public health, science, agriculture, social sciences, law, management, humanities, and interdisciplinary studies—demonstrating that sustainability is integrated across the university curriculum rather than confined to specific academic fields.
Supported by the university's SDG curriculum mapping mechanism, these interdisciplinary courses enable students to engage with sustainability challenges from multiple perspectives while strengthening their capacity to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
