The Green Collar Market

The student association of NTU’s College of Bioresources and Agriculture launched the Green Collar Market in 2014, inviting farmers, friendly food processors, environmentalists, NGOs, and NTU’s environmental clubs. Unlike most for-profit farmers’ markets, the Green Collar Market is education-oriented. The objective is to offer an opportunity for people to interact directly with farmers and learn about agriculture and friendly farming in Taiwan so that we can work together towards sustainable agriculture.

Master Program for Plant Medicine Hosts Field Workshop for Holistic Crop Pest and Disease Management

Yunlin is a significant agricultural hub in Taiwan and one of the leading agricultural producers in the country. The Master Program for Plant Medicine at NTU has been deeply involved in Yunlin County for many years, providing mobile on-site services and guidance on pest control in the local area. It also regularly conducts workshops and consultation seminars. In 2022, a total of over 200 diagnostic service cases were provided.

On November 18th and 19th, 2022, several faculty members from the Master Program for Plant Medicine led students to Yunlin to participate in a field workshop on pest and disease management in crop fields. This event facilitated face-to-face interactions between faculty, students, local farmers, and food producers allowing them to discuss the best strategies for pest and disease control and engage in hands-on field observations and practical training. Throughout the workshop, the participants visited multiple farms, enabling students to understand that in addition to ensuring the quality of crop production and sustainable land management, modern young farmers also need unique marketing techniques to effectively sell their produce. They learned how farmers utilize greenhouse facilities in the fields to reduce pest infestations successfully, resulting in the cultivation of organic fruits and vegetables that are fresh, sweet, and robust. Additionally, they explored how internet marketing strategies facilitate home delivery to reach consumers.

CAE Seminar: Organic Farming and Green Entrepreneurship Insights

Committee of Agricultural Extension (CAE)  periodically hosts free agriculture outreach seminars, featuring farm owners from various sectors sharing their farming experiences, industry insights, and new knowledge with students interested in agriculture. On November 7, 2022, the seminar featured organic farm owners who discussed "Green Entrepreneurship and the Process of Managing an Organic Farm." In addition to sharing the farm owner's eco-friendly agricultural principles, they also established a human resource integration platform to connect small-scale farmers with rural women through a labor exchange model, addressing the local agricultural labor shortage. Through this seminar, participating students and the public gained an understanding of the challenges faced by young farmers in the realm of entrepreneurship and management.
