NTU provides education programs for freshwater systems (community outreach)
National Taiwan University is dedicated to providing educational programs related to freshwater ecosystems for both the nation and the community. We possess specialized departments, research institutes, and research centers, including the Institute of Oceanography, the Institute of Fisheries Science, and the Institute of Fishery Biology, among others.
Our university collaborates with national entities to establish an educational team focused on freshwater ecosystems. We have established a Water Environment Patrol Team at the Northern Region River Conservation Center to assist in mentoring 486 Water Environment Patrol Teams nationwide. This collaborative effort engages communities, the general public, schools, and environmental organizations in jointly preserving the environment and ecology of water bodies while actively promoting environmental education. Additionally, our university aids local community residents in gaining a deeper understanding of the freshwater ecosystem in natural reserves and fosters exceptional local guides.
Internally, we offer students free summer programs to practice relevant research. Simultaneously, we extend our outreach by offering open courses related to aquatic environments, such as "Introduction to Marine Environment" and " Water Science" allowing people nationwide to engage in online learning for free, thereby promoting the sharing of educational resources. Furthermore, we provide free educational events, such as the "Youth Water Resources Camp" aimed at inspiring young individuals with a strong interest in water environments to actively participate in water resource management and conservation efforts.
Northern Region River Conservation Center - Water Environment Patrol Team
Our university's Department of Environmental Engineering has established the Northern Region River Conservation Center to assist the Environmental Protection Administration in mentoring 486 Water Environment Patrol Teams from various counties and cities. We provide operational strategies and educational training to these teams. Collaborating with the public, communities, environmental organizations, and educational institutions at all levels, we engage in activities such as reporting pollution incidents, participating in river and beach clean-up efforts, and community environmental improvement projects. Additionally, we work to promote the concept of environmental education, enhancing public participation in safeguarding water environments and spreading awareness about the importance of water conservation.
The 8th Youth Water Resources Camp
In response to the impact of climate change on Taiwan's climate and water resources, our university's Water Resources Experiment Station is organizing the "Youth Water Resources Camp" with a focus on the themes of "Climate Change" and "Sustainable Development." This camp aims to encourage young individuals with an interest in water environments to engage in discussions on topics such as sustainable water resource management and conservation. Participants are encouraged to propose innovative perspectives and practical action plans for the improvement of Taiwan's water resources and water environment.

Nan'ao Jinyang Community Environmental Education Companion Program
The Department of Forest and Environmental Resources at our university is collaborating with the Forestry Bureau to empower communities through the "Nan'ao Jinyang Community Environmental Education Companion Program." This program provides guidance and support to communities located in the upstream areas of rivers in Yilan County. It focuses on nurturing outstanding local guides who are not only well-versed in the surrounding mysterious lake's aquatic ecosystem but also deeply connected to the region's cultural and ecological values.

Open Courses - Introduction to Marine Environment, The Science of Water
To promote the sharing of knowledge resources and provide free online learning opportunities for people nationwide, our university has established an "Open Courses" website. The course "Introduction to Marine Environment" not only enables the public to acquire knowledge about marine environments but also encourages them to contemplate the ecological and conservation issues related to Taiwan's coastal areas. The course "The Science of Water" delves into various issues arising from the utilization of water resources, including topics such as water resource development, usage, and the management of water pollution.

2022 summer program , Institute of Oceanograph
The Marine Research Institute of our university aims to enhance the interest and practical involvement of the Taiwanese people in marine research. We encourage students from universities, both public and private, across the country to participate in specialized research projects. Through these projects, students receive scientific research training, engage in practical sea-based work, and strengthen their abilities in laboratory work and hands-on applications. This initiative is designed to guide motivated students towards future careers in fields related to marine research and management.
