To tackle student food insecurity at NTU, we have been implementing the “Living Allowance Meal Plan” since 2019. This program provides a monthly allowance of NT$5,000 to students from low-income, lower-middle-income households, as well as those requiring financial support. We collaborate with a mobile payment company to automatically transfer the allowance to the students‘ electronic payment apps, which can be used at all on-campus restaurants. Additionally, nearly all on-campus restaurants offer discounts of around 10-15% or special pricing to students, faculty, and staff.
