Our faculty members have a longstanding tradition of active participation in the National Sustainable Development Council. Three of our professors were appointed to the newly formed committee in April 2023, where they have provided valuable insights into Taiwan's sustainability goals. Their expertise has been crucial in guiding initiatives such as the Voluntary National Review and the formulation of the "12 Key Strategies" for achieving our net-zero target.
NTU faculty members also serve on other key government committees. Professor Sue-Ching Jou, from the Department of Geography, leads the Executive Yuan's Net-Zero Technology Solutions Task Force. This task force promotes innovative approaches to net-zero emissions through sandbox projects, encouraging private sector involvement and fostering public-private partnerships.
Professors Tze-Luen Lin and Kuei-Tien Chou, from the Department of Political Science and the Graduate Institute of National Development, respectively, serve on the Executive Yuan's Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction. Their contributions to the office include providing recommendations on renewable energy development, net-zero targets, carbon pricing mechanisms, and effective public communication strategies.
White Paper on Taiwan's Epidemic Prevention Policy in Post-COVID-19 Era (NATIONAL) To prevent future large-scale infectious disease outbreaks similar to COVID-19, a white paper titled "Post-COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention Policy in Taiwan" was compiled under the chairmanship of Vice President Shan-chwen Chang of NTU. A group of 49 experts, including numerous faculty members from the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health at our university, contributed their insights. This comprehensive white paper offers recommendations on eight critical areas of epidemic prevention, including: border quarantine, disease surveillance and prediction, information technology, medical response, vaccines, drugs, and rapid diagnostic tests, masks and personal protective equipment, school-based prevention, and risk communication. The white paper serves as a valuable reference for enhancing Taiwan's preparedness for future public health emergencies.

Assisting in Scrub Typhus Prevention in Taitung(LOCAL) To prevent scrub typhus, NTU's College of Public Health was commissioned by the Taitung County Government in June 2023 to conduct field studies in local townships. This involved capturing rodents, collecting blood and tissue samples, and counting external chiggers to analyze the distribution of scrub typhus cases in relation to geographic and environmental characteristics. Based on the data, our research team provided the Taitung County Government with recommendations for scrub typhus prevention measures. These recommendations are intended to be adopted by local health authorities and applied in practical prevention efforts to safeguard public health.
