Learning Together: Learning Portfolio Review Project To evaluate the implementation effectiveness of the 108 Curriculum and learning portfolios in Taiwan, Professor Kuo-ming Lin from the Department of Sociology, National Taiwan University, was commissioned by the Ministry of Education to conduct the "Learning Together: Learning Portfolio Review Project" as a crucial basis for policy refinement. Since 2020, the project has held numerous review meetings across Taiwan, gathering feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including students, parents, high school teachers, and university professors. In addition to promoting the concept of learning portfolios, the project has utilized surveys to understand the impact of implementing learning portfolios on high school teaching and university admissions, as well as the challenges posed. Moreover, the project aims to investigate whether the policy has further contributed to social equality.
Adolescent Suicide Prevention
Suicide prevention among adolescents is a critical public health and social issue in Taiwan. Due to advancements in internet technology and societal changes, adolescent suicide rates have shown a continuous upward trend in recent years. In 2023, the Ministry of Health and Welfare commissioned Professor Shu-Sen Chang from NTU's College of Public Health to conduct the "Analysis of Risk Factors for Adolescent Suicide and Recommendations for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Measures" project. The goal of this project is to identify high-risk groups and risk factors among adolescents for suicide, assisting the government in developing specific and feasible strategies for adolescent mental health interventions and suicide prevention, as well as strengthening reporting, care, and follow-up services.
Coordination and Impact Assessment Project for the Higher Education SPROUT
The "Higher Education SPROUT Project" is a 5-year comprehensive subsidy program for higher education in Taiwan, encompassing both public and private universities nationwide. The Ministry of Education (MOE) conducts budget reviews and approvals based on factors such as university performance, academic capacity, and student enrollment. Its primary objectives are to enhance the quality of student learning and assist universities in developing their unique features. In order to allocate funding as well as resources more appropriately and assess whether the subsidized universities align with the core objectives of student learning, MOE has entrusted NTU to carry out the "Coordination and Impact Assessment Project for the Higher Education SPROUT." This project is evidence-based and involves the analysis of institutional data to guide universities in enhancing accountability and to assist MOE in understanding the effectiveness of the "Higher Education SPROUT Project" as a basis for future policy planning.
